How to Apply for a Credit Card at Costco

Created on May 15, 2025 08:59:06

Step 1

Details/No Actions

Requirements:

  • ARC holder

  • Bank account in Taiwan

  • Evidence of employment

  • Phone number

If you are interested in getting a credit card in Taiwan, this is one easy way to go. As you may or may not know, just applying for one through your bank is really difficult and fraught with paperwork and usually roadblocks.

So if you already have a Costco account, this is a good way to go. Yes, it does require that you have a Costco account.

If you have a Fubon bank account, this will be easier, but you can still get the card without a Fubon account. Either way, you'll apply in person at Costco.

Step 2

Actions

Go to your local Costco and look for the table in the picture below, or some similar credit card application area. If you can't find this table, maybe go to the information or account renewal counter and ask about credit cards

Step 3

Actions

You can apply at a Fubon bank directly, but I think there may be more steps and complications to that process (paperwork, required documents, etc.)

Anyways, this guide is for applying at a Costco. Bring with you your ARC, a photocopy of your passport (the lady at the Costco branch who helped me let me transfer my digital photocopy to her LINE acct.), and evidence of a current bank account and balance. I remember I gave this info to her via LINE as well.

My bank account screenshots had my direct deposits from my employer listed in APP (Fubon bank APP) and my employer is listed on my ARC. This part is going to very case by case, but the good people at Costco who work for the credit card company will help you.

Step 4

Follow Up Actions

If anything is missing from your application, they will contact you by LINE or phone number.

Once approved, your card will arrive by mail (about 10 days or so) but it won't go directly to your home unless someone is there to receive it.

You'll need to sign for it because it contains sensitive information (your Costco card with your name on it).

The post office people in New Taipei City where I live left a notice on my mailbox to come to the nearby post office and pick it up. You'll get these notices when you have mail like this that contains financial info or contents of some kind of material value (like another time when I got a gift package).

Step 5

Fluff Content (YOU DON'T NEED TO READ THIS!!!)

That's it. Your card will allow you to make purchases online, overseas, etc. Call the number on your card or go to a Fubon bank and have a teller call the number for you to ask about currency rates and fees. Yes, they will have to call externally because the Costco credit card team are separate from the people who actually work in Fubon.

You will also have the following:

  • 200,000NTD credit limit

  • 2% cash reward points on purchases in Costco Stores

  • 3% cash rewards points on purchases from Costco’s online shopping

  • 1% cash rewards on any other purchases

I may make another guide about using these points and different Costco tiers. I'm currently just a lowly gold card member.
