How to Get an EasyCard and Register for YouBike 2.0

Step 1

Go to any MRT station, 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, or Hi-Life to buy an EasyCard. It usually costs NT$100 (card only, no balance).

To load the card with money, go to any of those places previously mentioned and tell the clerk you want to:

儲值 chǔ zhí

and then tell them how much you want to load or just give them the exact amount of money and they'll get the idea.

If you are at an MRT station, you can reload using a machine like the one pictured below.

Be warned that other brands of cards may not work with YouBike. YouBike 2.0 is standard now, and YouBike 1.0 stations and kiosks are a rarity these days.

Actions

So, you've got your card and now you are ready to register for YouBike. Agree to the terms on via registration on the app or via their website, enter your info, verify your SMS and then if it's your first time signing up you'll automatically be enrolled in the injury insurance (costs nothing).

Follow Up Actions

You can use your card for a lot of stuff:

  • buying snacks and food at locations that accept it

  • using the MRT

  • taking buses

  • renting YouBikes

YouBike rentals fees are free for the first half hour in Taipei and New Taipei City. Then its 10ntd per half hour. This is for the first 4 hours, and then after that it's 20ntd per every additional half hour. Over 8 hours, it's 40ntd for every additional half hour.

YouBike 2.0E (the electric one) is 20ntd for a half hour for the first 2 hours, then 40ntd per half hour past that.

Yes, you can ride the electric bikes if you are registered and insured to ride YouBikes. Zoom zoom. Be careful out there!
